For the purposes of describing this sector business services are taken to be “other business services“, ie business services excluding science and IT activities. It also includes the finance and insurance sector.
Activity in business services has expanded strongly in recent years throughout New Zealand, with employment numbers typically doubling in the ten years to 2008. The baseline forecasts are for business services growth in Northland to be considerably slower in coming decades than experienced in the ten years to 2008. Our accelerated growth scenario presumes that output in “other business services” will increase by 75% every ten years and the that the finance and insurance industry will expand at a slightly slower rate, but still allowing output to increase by 50% every ten years.
